Here is the running order of events for next week - to come along and invite friends/neighbours to join in as well as publicising what's going on via your own networks. 

There's something of interest to everyone: heritage, community life, literature, music, local history and wildlife - plus lots of opportunities to socialise and celebrate together. 

 

Thursday, 2nd:

Coffee at The Greyhound 11.00-12.00

  • all welcome for an informal social gathering over coffee and pastries.

Open Church 11.00-16.00

  • with displays including heritage, building, local community; the Scouts, youth group and eco-church;
  •  opportunities to explore church and churchyard - for all ages;
  • refreshments available - volunteers needed;

Friday, 3rd:

Literary afternoon 16.00-19.00

  • Author, editor and teacher Rosie Fiore will lead a one-hour creative writing class on the theme of landscape and place;

  • We’ll share a glass of wine and a bookish discussion on Maggie O’Farrell’s award-winning novel Hamnet;
  • And Sam Perrin, Cemetery historian and Trust Manager of Abney Park Cemetery will give a fascinating talk on our own graveyard’s links to Dracula… as well as some of its other secrets!

Saturday, 4th

Prayer walk 14.00

  • Explore part of the parish on a short work - beginning at St Mary's. We'll walk and talk - and pause and pray - as we explore the open spaces, footpaths and all that makes up our local community.  

Love your Churchyard Eco event 15.30

  • Join us for a wildlife count and picnic tea - bring your family and snacks/drinks (and a smartphone if you have one) to join in biodiversity research as part of the 'love your burial ground week' (see here);
  • Suitable for families, children and anyone, young or old, who's interested in wildlife - treats for all and certificates for highest counts! 

Jubilee Cabaret 19.30

  • Concert by St Mary's choir - featuring music from decades of the Queen's reign; 
  • Join us for an evening of informal entertainment with music from the 1950s to the present day!
  • Admission £10 (£5 Concessions) on the door.

Sunday, 5th 

Pentecost Sunday

  • 09.30 Sung Eucharist for Pentecost at St Mary's
  • 11.30 Sung Eucharist for Pentecost at Christ Church
  • 17.00 Evening Service on Zoom
  • 18.00 Civic Service to mark Her Majesty's Platinum Jubilee
