Welcome to the
Parish of St Mary and Christ Church, Hendon
Christians have been worshipping in Hendon for over 1000 years. Today Hendon is a busy and diverse North London suburb, in which we try to lead lives shaped by the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Week by week, and day by day, we meet to worship in our two churches: St Mary’s, on Church End at the top of Greyhound Hill, and Christ Church, Brent Street.

OCTOBER
CELEBRATING EILEEN COLWELL - THE MAGIC OF STORIES
This October, our Open Church will celebrate the remarkable life and work of Eileen Colwell, a pioneer of children’s libraries and one of the great champions of storytelling.
Eileen believed passionately in the power of stories to inspire children, spark imaginations and bring people together. She played an important role in developing storytelling in libraries and encouraged generations of children to discover the joy of listening to and sharing stories.
Join us at St Mary’s Church on Saturday 3 October, from 12 noon–4.00pm to discover more about Eileen’s life and legacy.
What’s happening?
An exhibition about Eileen’s life and work
A video compilation of Eileen speaking and telling stories
Live storytelling at 2.00pm
Opportunities to make video recordings at 1.00pm and 3.00pm
If you have children, have a love of storytelling, remember Eileen’s work, or simply enjoy a good story, everyone is very welcome.
Come along, explore, listen and celebrate a woman who understood that every child deserves a good story.
